Apple iPhone 7, 7 Plus’ ‘black finish’ prone from scratches.Apple

The dust has barely settled on Apple’s September 7 event and the company is already starting to run into troubles. Turns out that the new Jet Black finish on the new iPhone, as attractive as it may be, is also prone to gathering scratches rather easily. The word comes officially from Apple themselves who state that while the new process of manufacturing this finish results in a product just as strong as the machined aluminium counterparts, the finish itself is prone to show any micro abrasions that might appear on it. They go on to recommend that people buy a case if they don’t want their phones scratched.
Apple’s recommendation comes in the form of an extremely fine print that can be found on the specifications page of the iPhone 7, at the very bottom. It states that “The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodised Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.”
Essentially, Apple is telling you that if you buy the iPhone 7 in Jet Black finish, you can either slap it into a case where no one really gets to see what colour iPhone you have, or you could flaunt the finish without a case and watch it turn ugly right in front of your eyes. Either way, doesn’t sound like a very promising proposition, to be honest.
Apple iPhone 7 goes on sale in India on October 7, starting at a price of Rs 60,000. The new colour options are always in high-demand whenever the latest iPhone is introduced. Last year, the iPhone 6s’ Rose Gold was the colour everyone wanted, and this year both black colour options will take that place.
Apple has already confirmed one thing: The Jet black finish option will be offered exclusively on the 128GB and 256GB models only with Authorised Resellers and with select carriers in India. So don’t be surprised if getting the jet black iPhone 7 turns out to be a tough task.
